Bedroom Window, Bankshead by Winifred Nicholson, date unknown, Wikiart.
Winifred Nicholson, who lived in Cumbria for most of her life, was very much involved in the avant-garde in the 1920s and 30s. In London, she was a member of the Seven & Five Society and a close friend of Christopher Wood; in Paris, Brancusi and Mondrian were among her friends. Jim Ede, the founder of Kettle Yard, credited her for teaching him 'much about the fusing of art and daily living’. She influenced many of those around her. This is something that is often overlooked.
