This lecture focuses on the design and impact of the Great Exhibition in 1851 and how it generated a need for a ‘legacy institution’ which led to the establishment of the South Kensington Museum. It explores the significance of the building as a work of art, discussing the work of William Morris, Frederick Lord Leighton and other influential designers of the Victorian Age.
Lecturer Anna Warrilow has had substantial experience as a curator at the V&A and has a particular interest in the history of London which she teaches at undergraduate level. She is a Blue Badge Guide and arranges private tours in London.
