The Overshadowed

Chantal Brotherton-Ratcliffe

Chantal Brotherton-Ratcliffe

This lecture asks a question about unknown or little-known artists. How can there be such good artists of whom we have never heard? The lecture will consider the many reasons for a good artist’s obscurity, from a short life to the misfortune of being born and working in the shadow of a larger reputation such as Leonardo or Rembrandt. It’s a wonderful opportunity to discover and enjoy new treasures.

Lecturer Chantal Brotherton-Ratcliffe has taught at Sotheby’s Institute of Art since 1989 and has lectured at the National Gallery and The Wallace Collection. Members will remember her very enjoyable lecture entitled “First Catch a Squirrel” in 2020.
